Key Benefits

Plant sourced – free from shellfish and animal ingredients
Temporary relief of the pain of arthritis
May help increase joint mobility associated with arthritis
May assist repair – sports related joint/cartilage injuries
Kosher, Halal, Vegetarian & Vegan
Glucosamine is found in high concentrates in cartilage and other connective tissues. As we age, the body’s own production of Glucosamine is diminished; this causes joint cartilage to lose its water holding capacity. Osteoarthritis is characterised by the breakdown of cartilage, and so supplementing the body’s natural Glucosamine production may repair and rebuild worn or damaged cartilage as well as reducing pain and return mobility. Melrose Plant sourced Glucosamine is a unique form of Glucosamine hydrochloride. Sourced from fermented corn, it is 100% free from shellfish or animal ingredients and therefore allergen friendly.

Adults take 1.5g up to twice daily or as directed by a healthcare professional.

Overvi ew:

Glucosamine is a compound consisting of an amino acid and a sugar molecule. It is formed by the human body as a precursor to form larger molecules called glycosaminoglycans, which are involved in the formation and repair of cartilage. Glucosamine is found in high concentrations in cartilage and other connective tissues. As we age, the body's own production of glucosamine is diminished; this causes joint cartilage to loose its water holding capacity.

Cartilage is responsible for providing the "shock absorption" at the end of bones. It is the loss of this cushioning effect due to the loss of glycosaminoglycans that result in pain and loss of range of motion. Osteoarthritis, often known as "wear and tear arthritis" is the commonest type of arthritis. This degenerative disease affects the middle - aged and elderly, and is characterised by the breakdown of cartilage.

Supplementing the body's natural glycosamine production has been proven in clinical trials to repair and rebuild worn or damaged cartilage and reduce pain and return mobility.

Until Melrose Plant Sourced Glucosamine became available all glucosamines were sourced from Chitin, a major component of shellfish. This posed an allergy risk to many consumers. Melrose Plant Sourced Glucosamine is a unique new form of Glucosamine hydrochloride. Sourced from fermented corn it is 100% free from shellfish or animal ingredients. Melrose Plant Sourced Glucosamine is also Gluten Free, Halal and Kosher.

There are two major forms of Glucosamine, the hydrochloride form and the sulphate form. There is a discussion over which of the two glucosamine salts, hydrochloride or sulphate, is preferred for the treatment of osteoarthritis. Glucosamine sulphate is the form used in much of the clinical trials conducted.

It is important to understand that both salts, in the pure form, deliver equally effective amounts of glucosamine to joint cartilage. The hydrochloride form yields 83.1% glucosamine and the sulphate form yields 62.8% with the remaining 20% being sodium or potassium chloride. Both forms of glucosamine dissolve in the stomach's hydrochloride acid, which makes all the glucosamine readily available for absorption in the small intestine.
