Melrose Organic Balsamic Vinegar is most commonly used as a salad dressing. A small amount drizzled on your favourite salad, perhaps with a drizzle of Melrose Organic Olive Oil, is a delicious and healthy way to enjoy fresh food. It's delicious in sauces, and is sometimes mixed with fresh fruit. This sounds strange, but the flavour of the balsamic vinegar brings out the natural sweetness of the fruit. Don't use too much as Melrose Organic Balsamic Vinegar has a strong taste, so you only need a little.

Melrose Organic Balsamic Vinegar is made in the traditional way in Modena, Italy with one important difference. The grapes and all the processing of the balsamic vinegar are certified organic. This guarantees a fresh, delicious taste without any harmful additives, pesticides or herbicides. Melrose Organic Balsamic Vinegar has an acidity of 6%; this is an ideal level for a gentle vinegar taste that's not overly sharp. It is packed in dark glass bottles at Melrose's own GMP certified manufacturing plant in Australia.

Balsamic vinegar is an essential part of Italian food. It has been made in Modena, Italy for over 1000 years; the first historical reference to balsamic vinegar was a gift of a small barrel to the king Enrico II in 1046! To make balsamic vinegar, the juice of sweet grapes is heated in copper vats, aged in wooden barrels and fermented with a special bacterium, acetabacter. It has a unique taste, a bit like a combination of caramel and vinegar.

Like all vinegars, balsamic vinegar is an acid, so it can aid digestion. The biggest benefit from balsamic vinegar is probably as a delicious salad dressing it requires no preparation, which means it's easy to have a salad with every meal. Because of its unique flavour, balsamic vinegar can be used on food alone, without added fats or oils and instead of over-processed commercial salad dressings. So it's a great addition to any diet.
